Silverlight Charts in SharePoint 2010

Un interesante video sobre como usar los componentes de Telerik para graficar en tiempo real informacion de SharePoint 2010, lo bueno es que este video tambien nos muestra el uso de Visual Studio 2010.

Doing all this in Visual Studio 2010, how you’d put your project together, how do you go about diagnosing it, debugging it – the whole bit. The whole presentation is about 45 mins, and it’s mostly all code, so plenty of juicy stuff here!

Ultimo Post del Mes, y lo vamos a resumir con una serie de novedades que surgieron en estos dias :

1 – Integrando SharePoint con el Api de Google Chart

Si bien ya lo habiamos comentado, en ese articulo pueden encontrar el paso a paso de como, desde cero, pueden generar una lista y graficarla con el componente Chart de Google, solo un consejo, en el codigo que aparece en el articulo, llama el Jquery desde Internet, tema que puede resultar un problema para los usuarios sin conexion, por tanto descarguen el .js y lo cargan sobre una biblioteca auxiliar de SharePoint y lo referencian desde ahi.

2 – Completar formularios con el People Picker

Utilizar el People Picker para completar (con los datos del usuario) otros campos de los formularios de SharePoint, el articulo incluye el codigo para poder realizar esa solucion, que sin dudas sera de ayuda para muchos.

3 – Usar Content Types para indicadores de Estado

Laura Rogers nos propone una interesante solucion en base a Content Types, facil de implementar y que ayudan mucho en la generacion de soluciones con SharePoint.

Visual Studio 2010 Package designers for SharePoint

Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint Tooling supports packaging of WSP files with visual designers, tool-windows and MSBuild. Here we start by introducing the designers.

The feature and package designers expose deployment concepts which are familiar to SharePoint developers. These include features, packages and SharePoint items as well as their attributes and contents. Some of them include feature scope, feature dependencies, packaged assemblies, safe-controls, class resources, and more. Additionally, the designers abstract away the more difficult concepts and provide pre-deployment validation rules to avoid common issues when deploying your solutions.  The designers allow advanced users partial or full control of the feature and solution manifest files to merge or add data and view the final product.  Whatever your skill level you’ll find the new designers an exciting addition to your SharePoint development arsenal.

The best way to get started with packaging is to create a SharePoint project. SharePoint projects come standard with a Features and Package folder in your project. There are 0..n features in a SharePoint project and always 1 package. Here is a sample List Definition project as viewed in the solution explorer.

Todos los días surgen novedades en SharePoint, esta es la respuesta que doy cuando me preguntan como hago para publicar mas de un articulo diariamente en mi blog, si se fijan en las estadísticas, los últimos meses, genere mas de 30 o 40 artículos mensuales.

Así que, en este caso les dejo una serie de Links Interesantes sobre la plataforma.

1 – Instalando SharePoint en Windows 7.

Con la liberación del RC de Windows 7, que viene desarrollándose a una velocidad increíble para lo que son los lanzamientos de Microsoft, y que verdaderamente se posiciona como la versión MUY mejorada de Windows Vista, muchas personas están implementando esta versión en sus plataformas Virtuales o equipos reales, y muchos quieren tener SharePoint instalado ahí, y la verdad es que SE PUEDE, no es difícil, y así como se pudo hacer con Windows VISTA, 7 no es la excepción.

2 – Implementar Dashboards en Excel Services obteniendo datos de 2 Dimensiones mediante Web Services

Un excelente articulo en MSDN que les explica paso a paso (A los Developers) como podemos construir Dashboards en Excel, obteniendo datos en 2 Dimensiones, este era un requerimiento que me había llegado hace unos días, ya que muchas empresas están utilizando Excel para construir sus herramientas de BI. El articulo es sumamente detallado, completo y de lectura muy recomendada.

3 – SharePoint Designer Service Pack 2

Si bien esto no es una novedad, ya tenemos disponible el Service Pack 2 para SharePoint Designer, lógicamente en forma gratuita, y es sumamente necesario puesto que para un Farm donde ya tengamos implementado SP2 de SharePoint, Designer, sin esta actualización, no nos va a permitir conectarnos al sitio para trabajar como lo hacemos de forma habitual.

4 – SharePoint for Developers

Kirk Evans, publico una importante serie, de 6 Artículos, dedicados exclusivamente a los desarrolladores en SharePoint y cubriendo en cada uno de los artículos los temas mas importantes de integración de tecnologías y mucho mas. Adicionalmente, se encuentran todos los videos de la Serie, que resulta muy interesante para descargarlos a todos y tener nuestro propio curso de desarrollo en forma gratuita.

Se termina el Mes, y las novedades siguen surgiendo dia tras dia, asi que aqui les dejo un compilado de las noticias mas importantes para SharePoint.

Estos ultimos dias estuve trabajando en un proyecto donde debiamos mostrar distintas listas entre Sitios, osea, el problema de que las Listas se pueden mostrar (en forma nativa) solamente en el sitio donde son creadas, pero que pasa cuando necesitamos mostrar una lista de un Subsitio en un sitio Principal? La solucion es el WebPart Content Query, pero es uno de los WebParts que para que se VEA bien, necesitamos personalizar bastante… Y es un problema que estoy seguro a mas de uno le ocasiono dolores de Cabeza, para ello vamos a ver 2 articulos, publicados recientemente que nos solucionan mucho…

• - Mostrar un Calendario fuera del Sitio donde se encuentra.
• - Tutorial Paso a Paso del Content Query WebPar
• - Extending CQWP by doing a bottom-up aggregation

Asimismo les dejo un Link donde nos explican como podemos Personalizar el Calendario de Sharepoint en la siguiente forma :

Tambien podemos consumir listas de SharePoint con Ajax, en ese articulo encontraran una forma bastante interesante de hacerlo o tambien con el Uso de SPGridView para Mostrar Datos en SharePoint.

2 – Ajustar la Estructura de los Layouts de SharePoint puede ser un inconveniente, ya que muchas veces, necesitamos mostrar la informacion de una manera especifica y no en base a plantillas, aqui les dejo un par de articulos muy buenos que seguramente les ayudaran en este sentido.

3 – Cuando trabajamos con infopath, necesitamos en muchas ocasiones recuperar datos del Active Directory, ya sea Cargo, Manager, etc, etc, en la mayoria de los casos implica desarrollar, afortunadamente ahora contamos con el Active Directory Template Part el cual nos facilita las tareas de recuperacion, publicacion y filtro de datos de usuario. Proyecto Recomendado!

4 -  Mejorar la Navegacion en nuestros sitios es un tema interesante, ahora bien, desde los inicios, una de las funcionalidades que mas me gustaron para implementar fue la funcionalidad de TABS de la siguiente forma :

Para ello podemos Segiur el Ejemplo de Creacion de Tabs con JQuery y para ver un poco mas del tema, les aconsejo visitar el Post de Edicion con RSS que les permitira construir esta funcionalidad en sus portales.

5 – Una de las consultas de esta semana aqui en el Blog fue la forma de Modificar los Controles de identificacion del Usuario (Welcome) para poder ver la posibilidad de realizar tareas adicionales, para ello, les dejo el siguiente Articulo que nos muestra algunas formas de Trabajar con el control Welcome para personalizarlo.

6 – Y Por ultimo, otra de las consultas fue acerca de Branding y como poder personalizar el Box de Busquedas de SharePoint, les dejo el Articulo de como Customizarlo, via codigo en el cual nos explica la ubicacion dentro del MasterPage y mas datos interesantes.

Esto es todo, ya se nos termina Marzo, y estamos mas cerca de algunos Releases Importantes, se vienen dias agitados para el Blog :)

Exportar Workflows de Designer a Visual Studio

Mucha gente se pregunta su los Flujos generados en Sharepoint Designer pueden ser personalizados en Visal Studio, para de esta forma poder reutilizar Codigo. La respuesta oficial esque no esta soportado, pero es posible...
En realidad el Flujo de SPD es un archivo de Workflow Foundation (XOML) compilado, por tanto puede ser abierto en Visual Studio Extensions para WF.

I’d strongly recommend having a basic understanding of how VS workflows work prior to reading this (I will probably gloss over some of the VS specific details;)). For general information about building VS workflows, the SharePoint blog is a good place to start.

Also, I should note that this works for workflows that do not have forms. Adding forms can be complex, so I’ll try to cover them in a separate post.

Step 1: Create a VS Workflow Project

In VS, go to File > New and select either a SharePoint Workflow Project (from the WSS or MOSS SDKs) or Workflow Foundation project. You will need Visual Studio Extensions for Workflow Foundation installed.

Step 2: Copy the SPD .xoml and .rules files into the VS project

With the new project in place, we’ll start porting the SPD xoml over to VS. First we need to extract the appropriate workflow files from SPD. To do this, open SPD and go to the Folder List. Right-click on the workflow that you want and choose the Publish Selected Files... option.

In the Remote Web Site tab of the dialog that appears, select the File System radio button and choose a local location on your computer. This will create a folder called Workflows on your file system in the location specified.

When you have these files, rename the .rules file (if you have one) from *.xoml.rules to *.rules. Then add the .xoml and .rules files to your VS project. If you double click on the .xoml file in the Solution Explorer, the WF workflow designer should open, and you should see all your SPD actions in place.

Step 3: Generate a .cs file under the XOML (optional)

If you want to add code behind your XOML, you’ll need a .cs file to go with it. By default, the copied XOML won’t come with this. To generate one, just bind a function to one of the activities in the designer. OnWorkflowActivated is there by default, so try typing an event handler name to its Invoke property. The .cs file created should automatically initialize the namespace and class name to match your XOML. If you don’t like the default names, change the attributes in the first line of the XOML in an XML editor before generating the file:



Step 4: Deploy and debug the workflow

Fill out the rest of your deployment files and deploy the template as a SharePoint Feature the same way as with any VS workflow, then associate it for use. Since SPD workflows weren’t designed to be ported over, expect some kinks that you’ll have to debug through. But hopefully, the workflow provides enough of a base there to work through them, and with the ability to code, you can find some nifty workarounds;).
