SharePoint 2007 Con SP2 Incluido!

Desde hace ya varios meses contabamos con la version de Windows SharePoint Services 3 Con SP2 Incluido, ya era hora de que (Despues de tanto problema con el SP2) tuvieramos disponible MOSS con SP2… y un poco tarde pero llego.

Esta version es indispensable si queremos instalar SharePoint sobre Windows 2008 R@ y no tener que hacer interesantes experimentos para hacer una version parchada manualmente :)

Instalar SharePoint en Windows 2008 R2 (Articulo Oficial)

Desde el Blog Oficial de Microsoft para Sharepoint, publican la Guia de instalacion de SharePoint 2007 en 2008 R2, y esto se debe a que es necesario hacerlo desde una version con Sp2 integrada, cosa que para MOSS todavia no esta disponible pero si para SharePoint Services 3.

SharePoint Mini TIPS

En este caso quiero dejarles un compilado de algunos Tips indispensables para SharePoint y que les van a ser de utilidad.

1 – Colocar un Icono al Portal para que se vea en los Navegadores.

Gustavo Velez nos explica que La forma más segura para mostrar siempre el Favicon es incluirlo en la Pagina Maestra del sitio utilizando tags de HTML. Agregue su archivo Favicon.ico en el directorio de imágenes de SharePoint y la siguiente línea de código en la Pagina Maestra, exactamente antes del tag </head>:

2 – LLave en la Regisrty para ver la informacion a la base de Datos de configuracion.

Desde el Blog de  Dan Lewis, quien nos explica la cadena de conexión a la base de datos de configuración que se almacena en el registro de Windows :

3 – Instalacion de SharePoint en Windows 2008 R2

Con la reciente liberacion de Windows 2008 R2, las pruebas con SharePoint, y tal como sucedio con Windows 2008, es necesario contar con una version que por el momento no Existe, SharePoint CON Sp2 Incluido, recuerdan que pasaba lo mismo y se necesitaba SharePoint CON Sp1 para instalar en 2008? Bien, para solucionar este inconveniente es necesario construir esta “Version” de SharePoint y algunos datos mas a tener en cuenta, Bob Fox nos cuenta sus experiencias sobre el tema.

4 – Otra Con Windows 2008 (IPv6)

Si experimentan el siguiente error en sus IIS 7 de sus plataformas SharePoint o Project Server "Error 503. Service Unavailaible” tanto en el Portal como en el sitio de Administracion, no se asusten, Windows 2008 incluye la capacidad de configuracion de IPv6, esto presenta una incompatibilidad con SharePoint, asi que solo tienen que Deshabilitar el uso de esta propiedad en la configuracion de sus tarjetas de Red y listo, problema solucionado…. La Causa detallada todavia no la he visto, pero la solucion es rapida y simple.

Version Actualizada del Service Pack 2 (Ya era Hora no?)

Microsoft acaba de liberar el 29/7 una version actualizada del tan comentado Service Pack 2, que incluye el Fix al problema del cambio del tipo de Licencia que tanto molestaba… De todas formas, en lo personal todavia no recomiento la implementacion del SP2 si no es extremadamente necesaria y si nuestros servidores se estan comportando como es debido, para que complicarlo?

Yo sigo esperando a que se publique la version de SharePoint CON Service Pack 2, esto me asegura de que ya esta en una etapa madura, por el momento, y si bien es posible hacer nuestra propia version con el SP2 embebido, les recomiendo que prueben en sus entornos de Desarrollo u Homologacion antes de aplicar este Service Pack en sus granjas de Servidores.

SharePoint Sp2 Update!

Es ya conocido que el SP2 tenia un pequeño Bug y era el tema de la activación en nuestros Servidores, luego del SP, se pasaba a modo Trial y teníamos que volver a ingresar el código de Registro para dejar todo funcionando como antes…

Paso un buen tiempo pero ya tenemos disponible el Fix a ese problemita…

The update can be applied before or after Service Pack 2 installation.  If the update is applied prior to installing Service Pack 2 it will prevent the expiration date from being improperly activated during installation of Service Pack 2, if it is applied after Service Pack 2 it will remove the expiration date incorrectly set during installation of Service Pack 2.

The update is applicable to all of the products that this issue affected (see the list in the KB linked below).

We will be updating the existing Service Pack 2 download package with a new package that includes this fix within the next 4-6 weeks.

Bug In SharePoint Service Pack 2

No deja de ser una noticia preocupante, y si bien se de la existencia del mismo desde hace unos días, estaba esperando la confirmación en el Blog Oficial de SharePoint para poder comentárselas.

De que se trata, bien, básicamente todos quienes nos aventuramos a implementar el SP2 en entornos de PRUEBA, (Recuerden mis consejos sobre la implementación temprana de este tipo de Actualizaciones en entornos PRODUCTIVOS) notamos que SharePoint, pasa de Versión Registrada a Versión TRIAL luego que instalamos esta actualización, y si, no deja de ser un tema importante, tengan en cuenta que nuestros servidores EN PRODUCCION caducaran a los 180 Días.. La buena noticia es que ya se esta trabajando en el desarrollo de un Fix para esta situación, y de que podemos solucionar este inconveniente de forma manual :

• Debemos re-introducir la clave de producto en la administración central de SharePoint (KB article), a mediante la opción de Convertir el Tipo de Licencia en el Tab de Operaciones (Ultima Opción de la Columna de la Izquierda.)

Applying Service Pack 2 to any of the following products will result in this issue: Office SharePoint Server 2007, Project Server 2007, Form Server 2007, Search Server 2008 and Search Server 2008 Express.

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 is not affected by this issue.

What can I do to fix it?
To work around this issue customers will need to re-enter their Product ID numbers (PID) on the Convert License Type page in Central Administration.  Please see this KB article for detailed steps. 

Customers can also wait for the hotfix (available for free from http://support.microsoft.com) to resolve this issue.

Product ID numbers (PIDs) can be retrieved by logging into the Volume Licensing Service Center.

Note: For Search Server 2008 Express the only way to resolve this issue is to apply the hotfix.

What is Microsoft doing to fix it?
Microsoft is working on a hotfix and public update for the product. We will update this blog post with details and a link to the hotfix as soon as it is available.

Do I need to update all of the servers in my farm?
No. The Product ID number only needs to be entered once.

What if I haven’t installed SP2 yet but want to? What should I do?
You can continue to plan for and install Service Pack 2 for SharePoint Server 2007 with the additional step of re-entering your Product ID number after the installation is complete by following the instructions in this KB article.

Does this issue impact anything else?
The issue only activates the product expiration date. The activation of the expiration date does not affect the normal function of SharePoint up until the expiration date passes, at which point SharePoint will be inaccessible for end-users. This issue does not affect customer’s data, configuration or application code.

I can’t find/don’t know my original PID, where can I find it?
Product ID numbers (PIDs) can be retrieved by logging into the Volume Licensing Service Center.

Todos los días surgen novedades en SharePoint, esta es la respuesta que doy cuando me preguntan como hago para publicar mas de un articulo diariamente en mi blog, si se fijan en las estadísticas, los últimos meses, genere mas de 30 o 40 artículos mensuales.

Así que, en este caso les dejo una serie de Links Interesantes sobre la plataforma.

1 – Instalando SharePoint en Windows 7.

Con la liberación del RC de Windows 7, que viene desarrollándose a una velocidad increíble para lo que son los lanzamientos de Microsoft, y que verdaderamente se posiciona como la versión MUY mejorada de Windows Vista, muchas personas están implementando esta versión en sus plataformas Virtuales o equipos reales, y muchos quieren tener SharePoint instalado ahí, y la verdad es que SE PUEDE, no es difícil, y así como se pudo hacer con Windows VISTA, 7 no es la excepción.

2 – Implementar Dashboards en Excel Services obteniendo datos de 2 Dimensiones mediante Web Services

Un excelente articulo en MSDN que les explica paso a paso (A los Developers) como podemos construir Dashboards en Excel, obteniendo datos en 2 Dimensiones, este era un requerimiento que me había llegado hace unos días, ya que muchas empresas están utilizando Excel para construir sus herramientas de BI. El articulo es sumamente detallado, completo y de lectura muy recomendada.

3 – SharePoint Designer Service Pack 2

Si bien esto no es una novedad, ya tenemos disponible el Service Pack 2 para SharePoint Designer, lógicamente en forma gratuita, y es sumamente necesario puesto que para un Farm donde ya tengamos implementado SP2 de SharePoint, Designer, sin esta actualización, no nos va a permitir conectarnos al sitio para trabajar como lo hacemos de forma habitual.

4 – SharePoint for Developers

Kirk Evans, publico una importante serie, de 6 Artículos, dedicados exclusivamente a los desarrolladores en SharePoint y cubriendo en cada uno de los artículos los temas mas importantes de integración de tecnologías y mucho mas. Adicionalmente, se encuentran todos los videos de la Serie, que resulta muy interesante para descargarlos a todos y tener nuestro propio curso de desarrollo en forma gratuita.

SharePoint Sp2 Errors

Bueno, la espera fue larga y nos tuvo a todos ansiosos durante mucho tiempo, pero, con la instalacion, algunos sufrieron mas dolores de cabeza que ataques de ansiedad…

Quienes sufrieron mas y se vieron mas fectados en los primeros dias fueron los de NINTEX, al otro dia del lanzamiento del SP2, recibi este mail…

Pero, si ya lo habiamos instalado? Que pasaba? Se espera que el Viernes se libere una nueva version para solucionar estos inconvenientes, y ya hay algunos pasos para hacer el troubleshooting.

Nintex Workflow 2007 problem with Service Pack 2

• Por que no se publico una version Beta o Semi Beta en forma publica para permitir a empresas como Nintex a ser mas Proactivas. Comparto la opinion, pero seria realmente un descontrol tener Versiones Beta de Un Service Pack, con distintos Releases, no todo el mundo tiene varios entornos de prueba, la desinstalacion no es tan simple, en fin, creo que la solucion aqui es NO instalar actualizaciones hasta ver los resultados de las demas personas en el mundo, no ser ansiosos, y tener una Virtual siempre a mano para poder instalarla ahi y hacer nuestras propias pruebas de campo.

Failure when running configuration wizard after applying SP2 (problem and solution)

• Aparentemente ciertos usuarios estan experimentando problemas con los Servicios de Busqueda, ejecutando el Asistente de configuracion o el b2b Timer Job.

Problem with SQL Server and AWE memory allocation

Algunas personas dicen que SharePoint demora mas tiempo en levantar luego de aplicar el SP2

• Tengan en cuenta que las bases de contenido pueden ser defragmentadas automaticamente despues del update utilizando el nuevo Job de Defragmentacion

Otras personas tuvieron problemas ejecutando el instalador, y esto es probable que suceda por problemas en el archivo al momento de la descarga y obtengan un archivo corrupto, usando gestores de descarga evitan este tipo de problemas.

SharePoint Designer needs Service Pack 2 to connect to a SharePoint Service Pack 2 farm (El Service Pack 2 de SharePoint Designer esta disponible desde hace un tiempo ya, tengan en cuenta esto, sin esa actualizacion, Designer no podra conectarse a un Farm con el SP2 ya Aplicado.)

Asi que bueno, si estan experimentando algun otro sintoma luego de la Implementacion del SP2, dejalo como comentario…

A Seguir Actualizando, ahora con el Update de Abril

En realidad no se si es bueno o malo, lo cierto es que muchos usuarios se van a marear con tantas actualizaciones en un lapso de muy pocos días, y es que fueron liberadas las Actualizaciones o Cummulative Updates de ABRIL para SharePoint Services y Server 2007.

Pero si recién salió el Service Pack 2???? Es lo que todos tienen que estar pensando, Y Por que no se los incluyo en el SP2??? lo mismo me pregunto yo, pero para aclarar el tema, veamos lo siguiente.

1 – Se RECOMIENDA INSTALAR el CU de Abril DESPUES de habar instalado el Service Pack 2, tanto para Wss 3 como para Moss 2007

2 – Estos CU están DISPONIBLES UNICAMENTE BAJO DEMANDA, osea que hay que solicitarlos a Microsoft para instalarlo.

3 – MI CONSEJO es NO Instalarlos hasta que no se presente uno de los ERRORES MENCIONADOS para los cuales aplica el CU.

Lo cierto es que 2 Updates Importantes, con diferencia de 3 o 4 días, es mucho para cualquier producto y para cualquier administrador de plataforma, así que espero con este articulo, haber despejado las dudas mas importantes a la hora de pensar Que Hacer.

Installation Steps

To keep all the files in a SharePoint installation up-to-date, the following packages need to be applied on all servers in the farm. Service Pack 2 contains all fixes released through February of this year, so customers can install it directly on RTM build of the products.

1. Service Pack 2 for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
2. Service Pack 2 for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Language Pack (if applicable)
3. Service Pack 2 for Office SharePoint Server 2007
4. Service Pack 2 for Office SharePoint Server 2007 Language Pack (if applicable)

After applying the preceding updates, run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard or "psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait” in command line. This needs to be done on every server in the farm with SharePoint installed.  The version of content databases should be 12.0.0.6425 after successfully applying these updates.

Seguramente, este Service Pack sera el ultimo antes de la liberacion de SharePoint 2010, y es mas que claro que muchos van a comenzar a Migrar sus plataformas en el primer momento en el que este disponible la nueva version, y, como antes teniamos el Prescan, en esta oportunidad es el STSADM quien incluye el parametro PreuPgradeCheck que sera necesario para la migracion de 2007 a 2010.

Despues de tanta espera y tal como lo prometio el equipo de Microsoft, ya esta disponible el Service Pack 2 de SharePoint para descargar directamente…

Todavia no lo pude probar asi que no puedo darles Feedback pero esta noche seguramente ya tendre mis resultados.

SharePoint SP 2 is comming!

Todo indica que el proximo 28 de Abril, en Descarga directa desde Windows Update, podremos acceder a la nueva version del Service Pack 2 para toda la familia Office.

Algunas de las nuevas caracteristicas que van a estar disponibles, por area, son las siguientes:

SharePoint Service Pack 2

Service Pack 2 for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 will bring the following changes and enhancements:

• OneNote - SharePoint synchronization has been improved which helps reduce the load on SharePoint servers and produce fewer errors
• An STSADM command line that scans your server farm to establish whether it is ready for upgrade to the next version of SharePoint and provides feedback and best practice recommendations on your current environment.
• SP2 offers support for standards-based documents formats and compatibility with a broader range of Web browsers.
• Substantial improvements to Forms-based authentication.

Enterprise Content Management (ECM)

• The performance and stability of content deployment and variations feature has been improved.
• A new tool has been added to the STSADM command-line utility that enables a SharePoint administrator to scan sites that use the variations feature for errors.

Excel and Access Services

• SP2 makes it easier to configure Excel Web Access Web parts on new sites. Several rendering, calculation, and security issues have been resolved.
• Some display issues have been addressed.
• Improved compatibility with Mozilla Firefox browsers.

Groove Server

• Improved synchronization reliability.
• Groove Server 2007 Manager will install and run with SQL 2008.
• Groove’s LDAP connectivity and auto-activation functionality have been improved.
• Error reporting in the Groove Relay Server has improved significantly.
• Groove Relay Server has improved robustness.

Forms Server

• Memory requirements and the page load times for large browser-rendered forms have been reduced.
• Browser rendering of various controls, such as the 'cannot be blank' asterisk and the rich text field has been improved.

Project Server

• Better memory management in the queue service.
• Performance to certain database table indexes is improved
• Resource plans, build team, cost resources, and the server scheduling engine have improved.

Search Server

• Improvements to the reliability and stability of very large corpus crawls.
• Backup-restore has been improved.
• A new command has been introduced to the STSADM.exe tool that lets a SharePoint Administrator to tune the Query processor multiplier parameter.
• Improved accuracy in searches involving numbers.

As we wait for April 28, 2009 we will find more official details on what is fixed, new tools provided and the expected better documentation.

SlipStream SharePoint & Last Updates

Desde el Blog Oficial de SharePoint nos llega la guia de como construir nuestros propios instaladores de SharePoint con los ultimos Updates (En este caso los liberados en Diciembre).

• Here are the steps to create a slipstream to the latest bits:
• Copy the RTM (release) media into a new local folder such as C:\SPSlipstream
• Extract SP1 and copy the extracted contents into the C:\SPSlipstream\UPDATES folder that was copied when you performed step 1.
• Extract the December 2008 CU and copy the contents into the C:\SPSlipstream\UPDATES folder.
• If you are not using Windows SharePoint Services only, delete the Windows SharePoint Servicessetup.dll file from C:\SPSlipstream\UPDATES folder.

Caduca Soporte para Versiones MOSS y WSS SIN SP1

Me entere hace unos dias de esta noticia en el blog de mis amigos del CIIN y realmente es para poner en alerta a todos los Administradores de plataforma SharePoint.

Tras mas de 24 meses desde que fue liberado y un service pack mas numerosas Actualizaciones y un Importante Infraestructure Update, y a pocos meses del esperado SP2, Microsoft ha decidido dejar de soportar de manera oficial a las implementaciones de SharePoint 2007 sin Sp1 Aplicado.

SharePoint 2007 Service Pack 2

El Blog oficial de SharePoint 2007 anuncia las primeras novedades en cuanto al Service Pack 2 de SharePoint 2007, el cual sera lanzado entre Febrero y Abril de 2009.

Algunas de las areas en las que se esta trabajando :

• Improved Read-only Content Databases
  Whenever a content database is marked read-only, all of the site collections in that database are automatically marked as read-only. 
• ECM Performance and Manageability Improvements
  Improved performance and manageability in variations, including STSADM commands for repairing links between source and target pages.
• Improved Index Rebuild Timer Jobs
  SharePoint content databases running in SQL Server 2005 will undergo an automatic index rebuild, which helps stop defragmentation, and stop the database from degrading in performance.
• Upgrade Checker
  This will scan your SharePoint farm in advance of applying SP2 and will provide feedback on the environments readiness to upgrade.
